NARIT-SOKENDAI Winter School 2018

15-19 January 2018

Kantary Hills Hotel Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai, Thailand

The first winter school of 2018 under the International Training Centre in Astronomy under the auspices of UNESCO (ITCA) kicked off with a great start on Jan 15, 2018. This year NARIT and SOKENDAI co-host the school under the theme “Astrophysical Masers and Molecular Lines in Astronomy” with the help of prominent figures in Radio Astronomy from leading institutes across the globe.

The school aims at exploring one of the feasibility of early sciences – Masers and Molecular Lines that Thai National Radio Telescope (TNRT) shall focus upon. Given 40-m TNRT is scheduled to be fully erected in early 2020, preparation of homegrown researchers in Thailand and in Southeast Asia in the field is, therefore, inevitably paramount.

The school intensifies all relevant topics under the said theme in a 5-day span in which an excursion to the site of TNRT in Huai Hong Khrai Royal Development Study Centre has been also included. Students are expected to present their presentations on what they have learned from the school under close supervision from all lecturers.
