ITCA Teacher Training Workshop 2025
ITCA Teacher Training Workshop - Bandung, Indonesia 2025
We are pleased to share that The first ITCA Teacher Training Workshop of 2025 has successfully wrapped up with smiles and inspiration. Held in Bandung, Indonesia from 16–17 May 2025, the workshop brought together educators from across the many islands of Indonesia. During the workshop, teachers get to experience many hands-on activities they could implement in their classroom, led by ITCA in collaboration with Langitselatan and Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI).

This teacher training workshop is part of international astronomy teacher training workshop series conducted under the direction of the International Training Centre in Astronomy under the auspices of UNESCO (ITCA), hosted by the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) The workshop held in Indonesia is also part of the goals of the Southeast Asia Regional Office of Astronomy for Development (SEAROAD), a regional office also managed by NARIT, whose continued commitment to regional collaboration is making impactful strides in astronomy education and development across Southeast Asia.
This workshop was designed based on hands-on, active learning, connecting astronomy concepts with real experiences that teachers/students could relate to. Participants learn how they can use everyday object to see many electromagnetic waves around us invisible to our eyes, learn how to better demonstrate familiar concepts such as Moon phases, getting a tangible feel for the size and distances of objects in Solar System, using a card game to engage students to learn more about the size and various scales in the Universe, making their own piece of Comet in a classroom, or planning their future observation using astronomical software from their own laptop.

Along with the workshop, a special public talk was also held for a more general audience. A joint talk by ITCA and UPI focuses on the connection between astronomy and our ancestral way of life up to the development of modern science, followed by a lively discussion session among audience and speakers.

This event was not the first teacher training organized by ITCA and certainly won’t be the last. With our mission to ensure “Leave no one behind” in astronomy education, we will continue expanding access to science, sharing our knowledge, and growing together. Stay tuned for more opportunities and future workshops that continue to inspire educators across the region and beyond.
