Celebrating 9 Years of Successful Collaboration Between NARIT and IGN at TNRO-ITAC Meeting
The National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) and the Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN) of Spain commemorated nine years of strong scientific collaboration during the first day of the International Technical Advisory Committee for System Integration & VLBI Development for the Thai National Radio Astronomy Observatory (TNRO-ITAC) meeting held in Chiang Mai on May 26, 2025. The full TNRO-ITAC meeting was held over three days, from May 26 to 28, 2025.

Thailand and China Launch First VGOS Radio Telescope in Chiang Mai for Earth's Plates Tectonic Monitoring and Global Research
May 16, 2025 – Chiang Mai — The National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT), under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), held the inauguration ceremony for Thailand’s first VGOS (VLBI Geodetic Observing System) radio telescope, a 13-meter instrument located at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory within the Huai Hong Krai Royal Development Study Center, Chiang Mai. This project, supported by the Shanghai Observatory under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, aims to advance studies in geodesy, Earth's tectonic plates movement, and support global scientific collaboration.

ASEAN Astronomy Camp (AAC 2025)
The International Training Centre in Astronomy under the auspices of UNESCO (ITCA) held the “ASEAN Astronomy Camp” or AAC 2025 from 11-14 March 2025 for over 42 youths and young adults of age 15-19 from 11 nationalities to learn about astronomy, experience stargazing atop Thailand’s highest peak, sharing their passion and culture and visiting one of the most advanced astronomical facilities in the region, all held at the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) headquarters and facilities in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Inaugurates Thailand’s Fourth Regional Public Observatory in Khon Kaen
On the 18th December 2024, the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT), under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), hosted the opening ceremony for the Regional Observatory for the Public in Khon Kaen. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn kindly presided over the event and officially opened the observatory. This auspicious occasion marked the establishment of Thailand’s fourth full-service regional public observatory, reflecting the country’s dedication to promoting astronomy and science for everyone.

The first Southeast Asia Planetarium, Education and Outreach Conference (SEA-PEO 2024) has concluded.
But as we concluded, our journey does not end. As we in the Southeast Asia move forward, we will carry on with us all the lessons, activities, friends and connections we made along the way. We will bring those with us to improve how we interact with our people back home.
