The International Training Centre in Astronomy under the auspices of UNESCO (ITCA) ventured into Europe, taking its outreach activities beyond Asia and Africa into Portugal. From September 7–11, 2026, ITCA travelled around Portugal to Nazaré, Oeiras, and Constância for the ITCA Teacher Training Program conducted in collaboration with NUCLIO-Núcleo Interactivo de Astronomia. The initiative brought together educators and astronomy enthusiasts for a series of hands-on workshops designed to explore astronomy through different perspectives.

24 August 2026 - The National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) announces that the postponement of Long March 5 Y14 that is supposed to carry Chang’e 7 mission to the year 2027 does not impact the institute’s determination in completing the mission and that Thailand still intend to follow through the mission to the end.

23 August 2026 - The National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) announce the rescheduling of CNSA’s Long March 5 Y14 rocket carrying CE-7 MATCH, Thailand’s first payload to orbit the Moon by a month due to Typhoon Narra, according to the CNSA official.

The International Astronomical Union (IAU) is pleased to announce the establishment of the OAE Center Thailand, a new institution that will support the IAU’s Office of Astronomy for Education (OAE) in advancing its mission to use astronomy in support of primary and secondary school education worldwide. The new Center joins a global network of “branch offices” supporting the OAE mission.

The International Training Centre in Astronomy under the auspices of UNESCO (ITCA), operated by the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) conducted a Teacher Training Program and a Public lecture in the city of Lahore, Pakistan from 3-5 July 2026 to over 100 participating educational personnels and interested Pakistani participants. This international Teacher Training Program is one of many ITCA programs aimed to improve Astronomy education globally and foster future international collaboration.

The future is looking stellar for all the aspiring astronomers who attended the 12th Thai Astronomical Conference Student Session (TACs 2026) from 26th-28th of June 2026. This annual conference hosted by the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) welcomed students from across Thailand and international students to share their discoveries, invite new perspectives, spark questions and celebrate a shared fascination for astronomy.

22 May 2026 - Dr. Koichiro Sugiyama, Manager of the Centre of Radio Observatories Operations and Engineering at the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT), received the Yoshihide Kozai Memorial Award on Achievement in Astronomy 2025 in the category “Contributions to the international advancement of astronomy,

6–7 May 2026 — The National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (Public Organization), or NARIT, hosted the International Technical Advisory Committee for System Integration & VLBI Development for the Thai National Radio Observatory (TNRO-ITAC 2026) at the Princess Sirindhorn AstroPark, Chiang Mai. The meeting showcased the latest research progress and technological developments in radio astronomy undertaken by NARIT.

4-8 May 2026 - The National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT), under Thailand’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, participated in the Asia-Pacific Regional IAU Meeting 2026 (APRIM 2026), held in Hong Kong, China. Researchers and staff from NARIT joined astronomers and scientists from around the world to present research findings and astronomy outreach initiatives.
