Chiang Mai, January 8, 2024 - The Empress Hotel in Chiang Mai played host to the CAS-MHESI Bilateral Symposium, a momentous occasion that brought together leading experts, researchers, and dignitaries from Thailand and China. The symposium, spanning from January 8 to January 10, 2024, served as a platform to celebrate the ongoing collaboration and discuss future prospects in the fields of astronomy, technology, and space applications.

In his Welcoming Remarks, Dr. Saran Poshyachinda, the Executive Director of the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT), expressed his delight at the progress achieved through the partnership between Thailand and China. Notable collaborative efforts were highlighted, ranging from the development of cutting-edge spectrographs to initiatives in radio astronomy, geodesy, and space exploration.

The establishment of the Asian Treaty Organization for Astronomy (ATOA) was emphasized as a proof of the enduring strength that arises from shared expertise. Dr. Saran further showcased joint projects, including the installation of a 13-meter VGOS telescope and collaborative involvement in the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory and the TSC Pathfinder Satellite.

On the Thai side, NARIT, in collaboration with esteemed institutions such as Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi, Chiang Mai University, Mahidol University, and Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation (MHESI), has been at the forefront of leading this dynamic collaboration.

Dr. Saran concluded his remarks by expressing gratitude to all participants from both Thailand and China, acknowledging their dedication in propelling the partnership to new heights. He encouraged attendees to embrace the spirit of innovation, cooperation, and exploration as they collectively strive towards future achievements.

Following the welcoming remarks, Dr. Junpen Meka-apiruk Inspector-General of MHESI also a Board Member of NARIT, in her Opening Remarks, emphasized the historic significance of the CAS-MHESI Bilateral Symposium. She highlighted the outcomes of the 4th Meeting of the Joint Committee on Science and Technology Cooperation between Thailand and China, held in September 2023, as a crucial foundation for the ongoing collaboration.

The Inspector-General expressed great anticipation for the symposium, not only to build upon existing collaborations but also to explore new academic ventures, research endeavors, and joint developments in infrastructure and innovation. The spirit of scientific diplomacy was emphasized as a means to solidify the strong bond between the two nations.
