        Abstract: TBA

2. Mr. Kevin Govender, Director of IAU Office of Astronomy for Development

        Cape Town, South Africa

Topic: Astronomy for Development: Global structures and impact

Abstract: The IAU established an Office of Astronomy for Development in 2010 in order to implement its decadal strategic plan to use this science and all related activities for global societal benefit. In 2012 South East Asia became one of the first regions in the world to have a dedicated office, which based in Thailand and charged with the regional implementation of this plan. There are now 9 such regional offices globally. This structure has allowed for regions to interact with and learn from each others' experiences. It has also allowed for the dissemination of information and activities at a level of organisation that is unprecedented within the astronomy field. As we move towards the end of the 2010-2020 decade, for which the original plan was established, this presentation will reflect on the past successes and lessons that have been informing the way forward, and will reflect on the roadmap towards a greater impact of astronomy on society.
