Thai Very Long Baseline Interferometer Network Collaborative Workshop – TVN 2016 assembles 55 experts specialized in Radio Astronomy across the globe in Krabi, Thailand during 5 -9 September this year to galvanize advised information in Radio Astronomical research and technology, aiming to establish a National Network for Radio Astronomy and Geodesy (NNRAG), and ultimately through “Thai VLBI Network” or TVN, with the first station located in Northern Thailand.

Moving towards the second day of TEAM NARIT’s visit to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the integrated public lectures on Astronomy, Astrophysics and Cosmology were given at A1 Meeting Hall, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology by NARIT and VNSC colleagues. Despite certain limitations of astronomy development in Southeast Asia, researchers joined hands in enhancing infrastructures and human resources through education and research experience cooperation across the region.

Prof. Boonrucksar Soonthornthum, Executive Director of the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) brings on his expertise and experience of his long-devoted career in astronomy to synergise the dynamic ASEAN with a bilateral MoU between the institute and the Vietnamese National Satellite Centre (VNSC). The MoU approach is perceived as one of the mechanisms deployed to empower the regional astronomy, following the previous successful MoU signed with the Philippines, Lao PDR, and Myanmar, just to name a few.

As August kicks in with the pouring rain in Chiang Mai, though it doesn’t relinquish young researchers, Master and PhD Students, and NARIT’s very own Public Outreach team in the total of 26 to embrace themselves joining this one-of-a-kind workshop. The main objectives revolve around an initiation of the optical design methods relating to imaging instruments as participants were introduced intimately to the exclusive ZEMAX software usage.
